Lincoln Electric is probably the best-known name in welding.
Lincoln Electric welding helmets deliver enough features to suit just about any welder. They offer helmets in five auto-darkening series and one passive series.
I’ll recommend a model from each auto-darkening series and provide specification tables. You can quickly compare helmets head to head.
It’s an easy way to ensure you get the best welding helmet for your money.

The Lincoln Electric Viking 2450 ADV is a premium, professional welding helmet designed for lightweight and comfortable workdays.
It’s perfect for DIYers, craftsmen/artists, and lighter-duty jobs instead of overhead welding on thick material. The shell is as thin and light as possible, so it isn’t intended for high heat or thick slag.
The Viking 2450ADV has the same 4C True Color auto-darkening lens, digital controls, and X6 padded adjustable headgear as the 3350ADV series.
It has a smaller viewing area than the Viking 3350ADV but is still a very large viewport at 9.3 square inches. Another difference from the 3350ADV is that this helmet doesn’t have a Bluetooth mobile app.
Like the 3350ADV and 3250D, the 2450ADV includes the adjustable LED modular work light with the external low-profile grind button.
Also like the 3350ADV, the 2450ADV isn’t available yet in the graphic choices in the rest of the 2450 series, but the older version still sells at a price savings over the 2450ADV. It has a wide choice of paint jobs and remains an excellent choice.

The Lincoln Electric VIKING 1840 is a mid-range welding helmet from Lincoln. It’s a good helmet when you must balance price with features—for instance, for students or entry-level welders.
It also features a 4C True Color auto-darkening lens, but it’s only 7 square inches compared to the 9.3 square inches found on the 2450ADV. However, that’s still a pretty wide viewing area.
The Lincoln 1840 helmet is hard hat compatible. This helmet uses the comfortable Pivot Headgear instead of the X6 Headgear found in the 2450ADV.
The low-profile external grind button and digital controls add to its overall value, but other brands have competing choices at this price point.
At 1.25 pounds, the Viking 1840 is surprisingly light for the cost, even lighter than many helmets that cost much more.
Pros
- Great value
- Comfortable fit
- Lightweight
Cons
- Headgear isn’t the X6
- No Bluetooth app
- Smaller viewing area than 2450ADV

Other features include a weight just over a pound, a little less than the 2840.
The Lincoln Electric 1740 includes variable 9-13 Shade, Delay, and Sensitivity Controls, and it’s also got a Grind Mode control.
